Japan is facing a silent pandemic that threatens our very foundation. As a specialist who has dedicated over 40 years to this field, I must state clearly: If the nation does not address the “Hikikomori” (social withdrawal) crisis now, we face an existential threat to our country.

According to Ministry of Education data, school refusal has hit record highs for 12 consecutive years. Despite this, the government promotes a passive “wait and watch” approach—a failure of policy that has allowed the number of Hikikomori to surge to over 1.46 million. This is no longer just a personal issue; it is a national emergency.

A Global Standard: My Book Published in Taiwan

My methods for resolving school refusal and hikikomori are now recognized beyond Japan’s borders. My book, “Don’t Rescue School Refusal: Practical SOP for Reclaiming Life” (Traditional Chinese Edition), has been published in Taiwan to support families facing similar academic pressures.

In countries like South Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore, the “exam hell” culture often leads to burnout and withdrawal. My book provides a practical Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to guide youth from isolation back to the workforce, proving that 90% can recover with the right intervention.

My Origin: An Obsession with “Autonomy” Born from Experience

My mission stems from my own life. As a third-grader, I struggled with school refusal. It was through living in a residential facility that I regained my daily rhythm and confidence. Later, as a tutor, I successfully guided a hikikomori student to pass the entrance exam for medical school. These experiences taught me a vital lesson: Support must strategically rebuild both the mind and daily life.

Under this conviction, and through my work with the JPC (JADA Certified Autonomous Parenting Coach)—a professional group dedicated to empowering parents—we provide organized, systematic support from home visits to full independence.
